Open day at Calne fire station this weekend!
An open day and car boot sale is being held at Calne fire station this Saturday (27 September) to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Starting at 10am, the event will give people the chance to meet with their local firefighters and find out more about what Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service does in their town. There is also an opportunity to take a pitch at the car boot sale – call 07854 065899 for more information.
The event is one of several being held in Calne to support a fundraising effort for the charity, ahead of firefighter Mark Evans running the New York marathon on 2 November.
He explained: “I’m hoping to raise at least £2,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity, and we made £345 at the car wash last weekend. The open day is a major event for us, and there will be another car wash on 18 October. This is my first marathon, but my training is going well. Everyone at the station has been really supportive, and I’m hoping we’ll have a good day on Saturday!”
The Fire Fighters Charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their widows/widowers and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, as well as giving financial support to those who need it. The charity works with some 11,000 beneficiaries every year at a cost of £9 million per annum, and these services are financed almost exclusively by fundraising.
