Recruitment drive at Wootton Bassett ‘day of action’
Would-be firefighters in Wootton Bassett will have the chance to find out more about the fire service as a career on Monday 22 September.
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service will have its retained recruitment stand at the ‘day of action’ being held in the town’s Borough Fields car park by Sainsburys between 10am and 3.30pm.
Station Manager Glyn Moody explained: “Our recent recruitment push in Wootton Bassett brought forward some suitable candidates but we still need more people to provide the 24-hour cover that we need. Anyone who lives or works near the fire station has the potential to become a firefighter, subject to passing the entry tests.”
He added: “Being a retained firefighter is a great way of giving something back to the community, and it pays well! We need people to provide all levels of cover, so if you work in Wootton Bassett but live elsewhere, you could be on call during daytime work hours if your employer is happy. Day cover could be offered by mums during school hours, or evenings and weekends could suit people who work out of town but live locally.”
The ‘day of action’ has been organised by the North Wiltshire crime and disorder reduction partnership, and will feature a range of displays from key partners. Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service will also have its community safety trailer there, offering home fire safety advice.
