Charities to benefit after successful Show

Thousands of pounds will be donated to charity following the Emergency Services Show held at Hullavington on 7 September.

Despite a slight drop in attendance, attributed to the weekend’s stormy weather forecast, the Show was a great success with visitors from across the region coming to see the array of emergency service vehicles and demonstrations on offer.

Amongst the attractions were fire engine rides, the air ambulance, a wide range of vintage vehicles from all three ‘blue light’ services, displays by the police dog team and the fire service cadets, a road traffic collision extrication demonstration, and specialist equipment from Wiltshire and other areas.

The Show is organised by a voluntary committee made up from representatives of Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, Wiltshire Police and Great Western Ambulance Service. Committee chairman Chris Harvey said: “The event has grown considerably over the four years it’s been running, and this year was another fantastic day, even despite the weather.”

He added: “We’re sorting all of the money in and out at the moment, but we are confident that we will have well in excess of £5,000 to donate to local charities that work with the emergency services. Then we’ll start the planning for next year’s Show, which will be our fifth.”
