House Fire
Shortly after 4 O’clock this afternoon Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service received multiple calls to fire involving a mid terraced property in Caulfield Rd, Gorse Hill, Swindon. One caller stated that her husband was trapped in an upstairs bedroom.
Upon arrival fire crews were confronted with a well developed fire that had smoke logged the street. Fire-fighter’s wearing Breathing Apparatus carried out a rapid search of the dwelling and quickly rescued the male occupant from a 1st floor bedroom, they then re-entered the property to rescue the family pet dog.
Extensive damage was caused to the entire 1st floor and roof space of the property, the rescued occupier was rushed to Great Western Hospital suffering from shock and smoke inhalation, fortunately, his condition is described as “stable”.
Smoke detectors were not fitted to the property and the incident Commander stated that this was the reason the fire was so well developed and that the occupier had been extremely lucky to escape with his life.
Fire crews remain on scene whilst fire investigators determine the cause, ‘Hot strikes’ are also ongoing; this is an initiative to give fire safety advice and fit smoke detectors to neighbouring properties.
The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious at this stage and the family Collie dog ‘Hector’ appears to be recovering well from his ordeal.
