Drivers cut free after two separate road traffic collisions

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service attended two road traffic collisions during the morning of 4 September.

The first incident was a collision involving a car and a van shortly after 6am on the A429 between Corston and Kingsway Bridge, with one of the drivers reported as being trapped.

Fire appliances from Malmesbury and Chippenham, as well as the emergency support unit from Chippenham, were mobilised and were on the scene within 10 minutes. The head-on collision involved a car and large van, with the male driver of the car physically trapped by the impact and suffering from a severe leg and other less serious injuries.

Fire crews worked to stabilise the vehicle and release the trapped casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment. After receiving treatment at the scene from paramedics, the injured man was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Two fire appliances and the emergency support unit from Chippenham were later called to a road traffic collision at about 8.20am at the Grittleton and Alderton crossroads.

This involved three cars with reports of one person being trapped. Crews were on the scene within 15 minutes and found the female driver of one of the cars medically trapped.

Again working in conjunction with colleagues from the Ambulance Service, fire crews were able to stabilise the vehicle before releasing the casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment. She was subsequently taken to hospital by road ambulance.
