Man rescued from chip pan blaze
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident involving
a chip pan in the early hours of Saturday morning (25 October), resulting
in the rescue of a man from his flat.
Three pumping appliances, one from Calne and two from Chippenham,
were mobilised to Chaveywell Court in Calne at 4.27am. On arrival, the
crews discovered a fire in a first floor flat with the occupier still
inside the premises. The man, who was suffering from smoke inhalation,
was rescued by firefighters before being transferred to the care of
ambulance staff and taken to hospital.
Firefighters extinguished the chip pan fire using one hosereel jet
and four breathing apparatus wearers. Crews returned later in the day to
carry out a ‘hot strike’, which involves firefighters raising
awareness of home fire safety issues with residents living in the vicinity
of the incident.
