Man rescued from home following kitchen fire
A man in his 20s was today (1 October) rescued from his home in Mere following a kitchen fire.
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to the property at The Yews shortly before 2pm. Crews from Mere, Tisbury and Gillingham attended, together with a control unit from Devizes, and two breathing apparatus wearers entered the property to bring the unconscious man to safety.
The alarm was raised by a neighbour, who heard the smoke detector sounding. It is believed that the man was taken ill while cooking, and he was taken to hospital for treatment.
Advice on home fire safety, and information about the importance of working smoke detectors, can be found on the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service website, www.wiltsfire.gov.uk
