Fire guts Swindon house

A property in Old Town, Swindon has been gutted by fire this afternoon (7 November).

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to Western Street at 2.14pm and found the two storey house well alight. Initial fears that someone may be trapped in the building were unfounded.

Four fire engines, from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea, were supported by the Stratton control unit and the Swindon aerial appliance. Crews used six breathing apparatus wearers to search the house and three house reel jets and a main jet to put out the fire.

An investigation will now be carried out to find the cause of the fire, working with Wiltshire Police.
