Stratton Fire Station open day this Saturday
There will be fun for all the family when Stratton Fire Station opens its doors to the local community on Saturday 5 July.
The open day, hosted by Blue Watch, will run from 1pm to 4pm and all proceeds will go to the Firefighters’ Charity.
During the afternoon, there will be demonstrations of how firefighters cut people free from crashed cars, pump and ladder drills, a rope rescue display and a show of water rescue equipment.
A number of appliances will also be on show – in addition to those based at Stratton, there will be a vintage fire engine and the Swindon aerial platform.
Community safety advice will be available throughout the afternoon, including home fire safety checks.
For the children, there will be face painting, a bouncy castle and a ‘beat the goalie’ football competition, while refreshments and ice creams will be on sale. There will also be a number of stalls supporting the Firefighters’ Charity, including a cake sale.
Watch Manager Bruce Weatherston said: “This is a chance for people in Stratton to meet their firefighters and see what the fire station is like, but it is also an opportunity for us to raise money for our own charity. We’re hoping to see lots of visitors over the afternoon, there will be plenty to see and do!”
