Firefighters face police in charity cricket match

Rain stopped play when Warminster Fire Station and Warminster Police first squared up for a charity cricket match in early July – but it is hoped that the game will go ahead tomorrow (1 August).

The town’s cricket club will be playing host to the charity challenge, which is being sponsored by Batchelors Cycles in Warminster as businessman and county councillor Paul Batchelor is also a member of the Wiltshire and Swindon Fire Authority.

The two sides will be raising funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, while both hoping to win the day for their respective Services.

The game will start at 5.30pm, and everyone is welcome to go along and watch - refreshments will be available.

Pete Holcombe, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service crew manager at Warminster Fire Station, said: “We want to raise a decent amount for the Air Ambulance, so we are particularly grateful to the cricket club for letting us their facilities for free. We haven’t had a match like this for many years, so it could be interesting!”
