Busy morning for Fire & Rescue Service
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service dealt with two large incidents within ten minutes of each other this morning (16 July).
A crew from Calne, two from Chippenham, the aerial appliance from Swindon and a control unit from Stratton were called to a fire at the Travel Emporium in Phelps Parade, Calne just before 11.30am.
Four breathing apparatus wearers and two hosereel jets were used to tackle the blaze, which started to the rear of the building’s ground floor. Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
At 11.40am, crews were called to deal with a field fire at Pitton, near Salisbury, where 30 acres of standing crops were ablaze. Two appliances from Salisbury, a water carrier from Wilton, crews from Andover and Amesbury, and a Land Rover pump from Westbury attended, with firefighters using four main jets and beaters to extinguish the fire.
