Fire cadets support Britain in Bloom
The South West Britain in Bloom judges with Cricklade firefighters, cadets and supporters.
Cricklade’s fire cadets have played their part in supporting the town’s bid for Britain in Bloom success.
The cadets, supported by members of the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service crew based at Cricklade, met with the South West Britain in Bloom judges when they toured the town on Tuesday (15 July).
Floral displays at the fire station in Bath Road are a major part of the Cricklade entry, with a wild flower garden, a memorial garden to former station commander Tony ‘Taff’ Cope, and several planters.
Last year, the town won a gold award and the Ayre Cup for best small town in the South West, beating places such as Budleigh Salterton, Fowey and Dartmouth; it then went on to win a silver gilt award in the national competition.
As well as looking after their own garden, the cadets have helped Bloomers – a voluntary committee within Cricklade – to look after other public spaces in the town.
Anita Barrett, from Bloomers, said: “The fire station garden is a key part of our Britain in Bloom entry. The cadets’ hard work has been very much appreciated and we are very proud of what they’ve done.”
