Patients safely evacuated from hospital

Investigations are continuing into a fire at Green Lane Hospital, Devizes, which was reported at 2.20am this morning (Monday 14 July).

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service crews from Devizes and Melksham attended the scene, where 21 patients had been safely evacuated. Four breathing apparatus wearers and two hosereel jets helped to extinguish the blaze, and ventilation fans were used to disperse heavy smoke from the building.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire was started deliberately, and fire officers are working with colleagues from the police to determine the exact cause.
