Fire at industrial workshop
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to a fire at Falcon Interiors, Western Way, Melksham, shortly after 11pm on Friday night (11 July). Four fire appliances, one control unit and 28 firefighters and officers from Melksham, Cooper Avon, Trowbridge and Devizes fire stations were quickly on the scene, and were able to bring the blaze under control using six breathing apparatus wearers and two hosereels.
The fire was situated in the main wood machining and timber storage area of a large workshop and is believed to have started in an off-cut bin.
The alarm was raised by a member of staff who had been asked to attend the workshop to investigate the activation of the intruder alarm.
A Fire Service spokesperson said: “Thankfully we get very few fires in industrial premises, but owners and occupiers still need to be vigilant. Ensure you have a locking-up routine, this should include checking all potential sources of ignition are turned off and that your property is properly secured.”
Nobody was injured at the fire and the cause is still being investigated by Fire Service investigators.
