‘Organ Music is Hot Stuff!’
Calne firefighters hit the right note at an unusual fire this afternoon whilst they were attending the Headington and Stockley Steam Rally to promote the service.
Crews were on hand throughout the event giving community safety advice and information as well as answering queries from potential retained firefighters when shortly before four in the afternoon they were alerted to a fire in a fairground organ.
On the scene in moments, the crew swiftly dealt with the fire using a hosereel jet, two breathing apparatus wearers and a thermal imaging camera.
Tom Burns, Watch Manager at Calne Fire Station, said ‘It was a bit unusual for us to be in action at a steam rally. I think for a short time there were more people watching the firefighting than there were watching the main arena. Fortunately the fire was quickly put out without too much disruption to the day’.
The cause of the fire is thought to have been an overheated motor.
