Arson investigation after Cricklade fire

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to a large fire at Chelwood Industrial Estate, Cricklade at 7.13pm last night (11 December) involving rubber tyres, metal alloy wheels and four large storage containers.

Twenty eight firefighters, crewing four fire engines and two support vehicles from Cricklade, Westlea and Stratton, used water and foam to quickly extinguish the developing fire. Crews were delayed for some time damping down and turning over burnt material to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

One firefighter received medical treatment at hospital for a minor facial injury.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition. Anyone with information regarding this should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 - your call will be treated as confidential.
