Fire Crews Tackle Blaze in Vacant House
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to a severe house fire in Cedars Close,
Pinehurst, Swindon this morning.
Fire Control took multiple emergency calls from concerned residents reporting
smoke coming from an end of terrace house.
At 08:32 fire appliances from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea were mobilised and
reached the scene at 08:38.
These were supported by a Command Support Vehicle from Stratton and an Aerial Ladder
Platform from Swindon.
On arrival, fire crews were met by smoke and flames pouring out of a ground floor window.
Breathing Apparatus teams entered the house to extinguish the fire and check that there was
nobody inside. Thankfully the house was empty, however there was extensive fire damage to the
ground floor and smoke damage to all rooms.
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service carried out home fire safety checks to neighbouring
homes. Adjoining houses were checked for fire and smoke spread, these houses were later
given the all clear.
The cause of the fire is under a joint investigation by Wiltshire Fire &# Rescue
Service and Wiltshire Police with specialist fire investigators at the scene today and tomorrow.
At this time of year remember to check your smoke alarms regularly and make sure they have a working
battery. These simple steps will give you valuable time to escape and could prevent a tragedy.
