Family Rescued From Flat Fire
Fire crews from Swindon and Stratton Fire Stations were called to Gresham Close, Walcot, Swindon shortly after 20:15 this evening, to a report of a flat fire. Further calls indicated several persons were trapped in the flat, and additional resources were mobilised to the incident.
The first crew arrived within four minutes and were faced with three people trapped in the first floor flat and smoke issuing from an adjacent window. A further casualty had made his own way out of the building and was receiving first aid. The three casualties were rescued from the first floor using a 105 ladder and subsequently received first aid from the Ambulance Service due to smoke inhalation.
Four breathing apparatus wearers entered the heavily smoke-logged building to fight the fire using hose reels. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but involved an electrically powered scooter which was badly damaged in the fire.
