Matrons Cottages, Whaddon, Alderbury, Salisbury
Three Fire Engines, one Hydraulic Platform and twenty Firefighters and Officers from Salisbury and Wilton Fire Stations were called to a fire in a house, in Whaddon, near Salisbury earlier this morning.
The Officer in Charge and crew of the first fire engine to arrive were confronted with a well developed fire on the first floor of the three bedroomed house, and were informed by neighbours that someone may still be inside.
A Breathing Apparatus (BA) crew consisting of two Firefighters entered the premises to look for the reported missing person. Following an extensive search of the building it was determined that no person was involved. The occupier was quickly located at her place of work elsewhere in the village and she was able to confirm that no one was in the house.
BA crews then re-entered to fight the fire which was quickly brought under control using two hosereel jets. No persons were injured.
Crews will be returning to the scene of the fire later today to carry out Community Fire Safety work with local residents, giving advice on fire prevention and the fitting and maintenance of smoke alarms.
Members of the public can obtain free fire safety advice by visiting the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service web site at www.wiltsfire.gov.uk and then follow the Community link from the drop down menu.
