PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT

To seek reductions in the incidence of death and injury and damage to resources and the environment from fire and other emergencies for the residents of Wiltshire and Swindon and those transient through the area.

OBJECTIVES OF DEPARTMENT

  • Ensuring arrangements are in place for effective planning, development and review of the department.
  • Promoting the achievement of FRS strategic aims by positive involvement in Community Safety.
  • Promoting and supporting an effective Health and Safety culture by investigating accidents efficiently and comprehensively risk assessing hazards.
  • Actively promoting efficient, effective and economic use of personnel and equipment.
  • Seeking expert assistance and consulting and collaborating with all interested bodies to constantly improve service delivery.
  • Providing, through our visual aids department, audiovisual support for operational incidents and for the FRS's legal responsibilities for specialist operational functions such as Fire Investigation and Fire Safety prosecutions.
  • Providing necessary information and instruction to employees and others, including temporary staff to ensure their competence and safety irrespective of role.
  • Ensuring that the most effective response to an incident is achieved by efficient emergency call handling.
  • Reviewing policies and procedures to ascertain any adverse impact on minority groups within the community.

The Corporate Risk Registry is committed to continually improving operational standards and performance. It will endeavour to ensure that all relevant statutes, regulations and codes of practice are complied with.

WHAT SERVICES DOES THE CORPORATE RISK REGISTRY PROVIDE?

  • Meets the national standards of fire cover for appliances, personnel and attendance times by maintaining appropriate crewing levels on stations.
  • Receives calls for assistance and responds by mobilising appropriate resources and providing incident support.
  • Provides, through technical information audits and operational de-briefs (risk assessments, Tactical Information Plans, Operational Information Notes etc.) sufficient advice to facilitate good Health & Safety practice on the incident ground.
  • Liaises, consults, compares and collaborates with partnership organisations, (police, ambulance etc.) to ensure an effective, efficient and economical service.
  • Collates, disseminates and assesses operational statistics to maintain a high quality of service and to achieve compliance with both Best Value Performance Indicators and Local Performance Indicators.
  • Researches, develops and implements new procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and compliance with existing and future legislative requirements.
  • Promotes a safer society by positive proactive and reactive Community safety information and instruction.
  • Confines 90% of fires to the compartment of origin by ensuring that the speed and weight of attack is appropriate.

Through working in partnership with the Environment Agency protects and minimises damage to the environment.
