PURPOSE OF APPLIANCE

Wiltshire is largely rural county with areas where water sources are scarce. The water carrier provides an adequate water supply in areas such as these.

The vehicle is designed to perform 2 major functions. Firstly, and most importantly, to arrive at an incident with 9,000 litres of water and have the ability to leave this in portable dams, available to the officer-in-charge, and then leave to replenish its tank and bring subsequent 9,000 litre loads back to the incident. Its second function is to act as a large mobile water source for use at those incidents requiring small quantities of water over a wide area. For this purpose the vehicle carries a light portable pump which is capable of being run while it is on its carrying frame and can be connected to the tank to provide a firefighting jet whilst in transit.
