The Rope Rescue Teams from Trowbridge and Chippenham provide
the FRS's Rope Rescue capability. There are currently four personnel
(two from each station) qualified to Level 2 Instructor status and
11 qualified as Level 1 operators.
The team are equipped with dedicated equipment including:-
· Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e.
Boots, Lightweight coveralls, inclement weather clothing, low profile
helmets, personal helmet torches and communication equipment.
· 100 metre lines
· Rope accessories including:-
· Ascending/Descending devises
· Fall arrest and retrieval devises
· Harnesses
· Anchorage devises and strops
· Ground Anchors
· Stretchers
· Shear legs
The equipment is mobilised using Landrovers, with teams from Trowbridge
and Chippenham being mobilised simultaneously subject to availability.
The training and equipment provided for the team, enables them to
minimise the risk to rescue personnel and those being rescued by
implementing appropriate control measures and safe systems of work
at incidents involving working at height or in confined spaces.
The rope rescue team will be mobilised for all incidents involving
rescues from height or confined spaces such as:-
· Incidents in Quarries
· Tower crane rescues
· Underground incidents
· Sewer incidents
· Lift shaft rescues
· Fun fair rides
· Silos
· Pylons
· Stretcher rescues either in the horizontal or vertical
plane
· Unsafe terrain
· Rescues from structures where access cannot be gained by
ladders or aerial appliances.
